Holiday Snapshot Writing

We have a few more Holiday Snapshot recounts completed.
We are learning to write about a short space of time.

We will know we can do this when:
- we have written about no more than seven minutes of a personal experience
- included adjectives to describe feelings, tastes, smells and what we see
- described our thoughts and emotions.

Click on the comments below to see our fabulous Holiday Snap Shot Stories. Student's work will be published as it is completed.

  1. I ran away to hide from my little brother, Netana. I slipped over. It felt like I was walking in the air. I slipped on my back and I got winded. It hurt. I screamed.

All of these thoughts were going through my head. I am alive. YES!!! I got up right by the road. I ran back to mum. I was so happy. I was alive!!

  2. In the holidays I fell on my cat Smudge. I landed on my arm. As I stood up she started clawing my arm and my face. I felt terrible pain. I fell on her again and cracked my arm. It felt like it was broken. I pulled myself up.

The pain in my arm was growing slowly. When I made it up the torturing climb Smudge smashed into the t.v. She almost knocked it over. I caught it just as it fell. I pushed it back into place and strained my arm even more. The pain was unbearable. I felt my eyes get wet in pain.

  3. Crushing gorse the bike flips, terror fills me as I try to scream but it's not coming. There's only a tiny squeak. Emotions speed through my head as fast as a jet. What do I do? Do I jump? What? WHAT?

My heart pounds. I freeze in panic. Trying to move I realise my leg is wedged in between the motorbike and the ground. I tug and I jerk at my leg but it doesn't budge. I heave and yank nervously trying to free my leg until it was finally free. Swinging my leg round frantically I leap off. Tears stream from my eyes. It's finally over.

  4. I saw my target walk cautiously and quietly around a corner of the big room wide maze. Not knowing if she saw me, I sprung out from where I was hiding, aimed my gun quickly and tried to fire. No red laser showed up on Sarah's vest. I was so alarmed to se a red laser appear on my shoulder pad. I turned around to to find Emma, who had snuck up from behind me, standing there with a big evil grin on her face.

I sprinted away to take cover so my gun could reactivate. It felt like an hour before it did. The laser gun made a beeping noise. I walked quietly, not making a sound, to find my two big cousins. When they rand around a corner I ducked down and was able to shoot both of them in the back. Their vests lit up like a bright blinking sun.

    Revenge was sweet.

  6. Lifting the icy cold snowball onto the snowman's body my hands are frozen from lifting the cold snow. Scrunching and bunching the snowballs together to form the head I shove the snowball onto the body and lift then decorate it.

Finally we lift the snowman and carry on traveling to Timaru. It is sad to leave him there. I want to take him with me to show my sister so that she can see him.

  7. Flashes of brown, black and white were caught in the corner of my eye. I turned around to take a closer look but when I saw those mysterious things I shouldn't have.

Standing about four metres in front of me were three hideous looking cows! The brown cows had horns and the black cow looked like it was pregnant. Without thinking I ran to the top gate and literally flung myself over it. Dad, Megan, Mum ad Rollen were already at the gate. They were bursting with laughter but I wasn't.

My body froze, the whole thing was absolutely terrifying. I struggled to stand up, but with the help of dad (who was still giggling) I managed to stand up. The cows were still staring at me. I thought they were laughing too but then the cows bolted under the fence and ran after forest the horse that was grazing in our paddock.

Forest started panicking and in the next millisecond he went crazy. He was galloping and bucking himself. The neighbour heard the huge commotion and came to help. Barry, the neighbour, tried to lead Forest out of the paddock so that he would stop overeacting but when he opened the gate Forest crushed over him and galloped up the road with the cows slowly following.

The whole experience was making my heart skip beats. Dad and Barry made a joint effort to herd the cows down the road and back to their grazing spot. Everyone (including Rollen) helped out to catch Forest. In the end Barry managed to tame Forest and put him back into the paddock.

That was the most interesting experience that I had had for a long time.

  8. The terrified look in the pony's eyes as the long plier looking instrument reached into his mouth curling around one of his teeth. With a twist and sharp pull blood started to pour. The pony backed into the wall ramming into the bricks, rubbing hard as he twisted around so his head was in the corner. The dentist couldn't reach him. He covered his eyes and the instrument curled around another tooth and a sharp pull. Blood dripped out of his mouth and started to clot. Millions of horrible questions buzzed inside my head making the world spin. My insides started churning and whirling as the world blacked out...
